As I have been spending a bit of time doing optimisation techniques for work and found it boring but the principals sound, I have developed an optimisation model for the Super 14 Finals series and I will be running the players selections it chose.  It's always nice to actually use work for the really important things in life.

What it does is maximises the number of points for a team by slecting the optimum mix of players based on how many points they scored in the rounds and is then constrained by the cost to purchase that player and then constrained by the number of players required by poistion (tight forward, Loose forwards and backs).

It will be interesting to see how it goes.  It produced a few interesting selections but it did stack the side with 4 NSW players so they had better win.  I can put constraints on the number of players from each side so it then gets even more interesting but obviously not as potentially beneficial in regards to maximum points.

If it works and if anyone is interested I'll try and develop it for an Excel download.

I'd find your results fascinating , Geeves!  Cool I (when I have more tiome than I have in 2006! Sad) have done it manually by sorting the best scorers from the week (or month) before & then working out the most affordable combinations on my budget.

However there are several techniques also ( that require extra time to activate) to maximise profit in the first instance. We should create threads to discuss some of these as a forum as I know there are many of us that have developed our own theories over the last 2or 3 years that would improve all our results immeasurably!

We might even be able to write a book (or proigram) for FR beginners.....na, then they'd surely beat us! Lips Sealed

                                    Cheers,

Last time I played FR, I made a fortune in week one.

After that, money was never a constraint - so long as I had the transfers I could pick whoever I liked.

Here is the technique:

1 day before the comp start collect the first 100 teams (FR only - you can't do this in TR cos they are hidden). I tried to write a web query to collect every team but the frames were a problem, however it didn't take too long to view/cut/paste 100  Undecided .

Use this sample data to identify the most popular players, and pick them - especially if they are cheap.

At the first close-off, my team had the maximum increase in value  Cool  no more money worries for the rest of the comp  Lips Sealed .
