Membership

Our stats today suggested we had broken 500 ...actually 501...members this week so having nothing better to do with my Sunday  Embarrassed while waiting for the JUNIOR ALL BLACKS to play( 2pm) I decided to investigate.

I found that the stat figure is out by exactly 50 as lists have just 451! ....could be jules' extradition of spammers I thought so delved further. Of 451 members over  half have never posted at all (252) & 110 have posted less than 10 times leaving just 99 who have posted 10 times or more!

While I respect those who either visit to read our pearls of wisdom and post once in a blue moon wouldn't it be nice to have more contributing regularly?  Maybe we should be more proactive in encouraging new members. Personally I PM as many as I can as they register(if I notice! Undecided) or at least respond positively to their first few.
Some of those have become regulars  Cool but as figures here suggest many slip back out into cyberspace again and are never heard of again...their choice.

Another personal ambition of mine is to meet as many of you as I can.... which I know makes for more meaningful correspondence after......and indeed meeting the real people behind posts enriches understanding of their points of view. I have not reached 10 in that quest yet but am working on it! Have you tried too though I understand geographic constraints are a hindrance. One of the most encouraging aspects of recent months is getting a greater input from the rest of the planet!  Grin  I intend meeting the remainder of EW team in Rugby Comp when pdeb is able to resuscitate his baby! Kiss

Gwynn & I have chewed over the possibility of a get together at a convenient time this season but work & family commitments are going to make that difficult for many! Roll Eyes I sense that RH early success was built on several of you Ch Ch members getting together over a few quiets....please tell me I'm not wrong? Undecided

Enough of a RAVE from me but I would appreciate feedback of other things we could do to grow.

                                                 Cheers,
                                                   Baz  Wink

PS I hear Lauaki is already back with JAB's and will play before P6-NC 2007 is very much older! Cool

Nice to see you paying attention to this stuff Baz, more attention than me on this occasion in fact!

I had noticed that the member count was out of whack a little as well and I think it probably is to do with the spam users but not exactly sure why it isn't in sync. Will look into it.

And I agree completely that it would be good to get some more active contributors, and spending a bit of effort targeting those that have already signed up but haven't contributed at all/much/recently in the first instance, as at least they have shown some interest in being involved.

My thinking is that we get more involvement by promoting the community features of the site, not just the discussion board. I am still fiddling with some of those bits (editing/adding game details, submitting news links, writing articles) but most of those are either working or close to working so hopefully I can get most of that nailed in the next month or so and then we can promote all the wonderful things that Rugbyheads membership gets you!

Once that stuff is working ok then we can do a mass mail out to all the registered discussion board members prompting them to get involved more.

I have also started working on exposing some of the community stats, which hopefully will help with enticing people to get involved.

Simple stuff like showing the top contributors to the site (in terms of board posts, link submissions, articles written, game details entered etc).

At present it is Baz, Geeves and I who are doing most of the link submission and game detail entering but hopefully that will change. I know that not that many people have access to do that at present, so if you are a regular who wants to get involved but doesn't have access just send me a message and I'll give you access to the CrashTestDummies group!

It would be damn cool if by the time the RWC rolls around that we have a good group of users who are using Rugbyheads as the place to find out and post the latest rugby news and results, and to contribute their thoughts on all things rugby.

Meeting a few more Rugbyheads in person would obviously be great too. The original core of the site were a bunch of mates from Christchurch who either worked together or at least hung out together and talked about rugby on occasion. At that stage the articles were very much the focus, and the discussion board was sort of an aside. In recent times that focus has flipped almost completely but hopefully we can address that balance soon.

Now days we don't see as much of each other (for various reasons: change of jobs, young families, dementia, body odor) so the opportunities to fire each other up to contribute to the site or collaborate on an article are few and far between, but that doesn't mean we can't do a better job than we have, and the RWC is the perfect reason to make more effort.

That's enough rambling for now, but hopefully it gives some insight into my plans for the site! Keep bugging me about all this and hopefully we can make it happen!

Cheers, Jules

And Jules ... we need a pre formatted invitation, something that we can personalise and also promotes the main features of this site.

Good idea Tesrof. I will probably put together a blurb on the home page that lists the benefits of joining and then add an "email an invite" type link to that which puts that text in as as the default text for an email you can send.

Hopefully Baz and I can organise maybe one or two get togethers next year.  I had to rule organising anything out this year due to my European trip, by next year I'm definately keen to get down to some good old provincial games and enjoy meeting some more of the team from around here.

Would definately like to have more members, especially bringing more of an international flavour to the site.  The recent contributions of sharkie & ballboy have been very good for keeping us up to play on South African news, whilst England Jim keeps us honest, and Geeves & Dingo... well they just keep reminding us of `03...

I think we need to publise the site on other rugby chat sites. Baz you are on a few in SA, there must be similar ones in England. We need a membership drive big time. Currently there are about 6 regular posters and probably another 4 or 5 who drop in from time to time.

Don't worry, I think a few of us are still reconditioning for the RWC.
Don't want to peak too early.
