Hi all

Just a brief note to say that the accident at Pike River made the news over here, and no doubt like others elsewhere people who heard about it hoped that the outcome of the Chilean mine incident would be repeated.

The story was no one-day wonder, the reports kept coming in day-by-day. Sadly the reports become less optimistic and the news of the second explosion removed any faint hope.

This post, and its sentiment of saying that people here were aware of the plight of the miners and their families. is no consolation to those involved, but accounts of tragic circumstances do reach around the world.

Cheers Meg!

Yeah, been a pretty Horrible year for the South Island. Earthquakes, plane crashes, now the mine disaster.

Nice to see Wales allowing a minutes silence etc before the game. I guess if anyone knows about coal mining disasters & its impact on communities, it would be the Welsh!

cheers
