Been a bit wet this side of the ditch.  I think the city really dodged a bullet as it stopped raining on Monday night and the water hit on Tuesday.  If it kept raining with already full drains it would haev been worse.

Its the smell over the next couple of weeks that I'm not looking forward too.

Yeah, the coverage of it has been quite shocking Geeves. That is amazing amount of water. Absolute disaster. Hope you got thru fine!

The smell must be worse that R Pontings gruds after the ashes I reckon!

We are fine  however, down the road and down the hill got trashed.  I pulled a back muscle on Monday before the floods and I had to stop llifting stuff after Friday (started Tuesday afternoon when the creek in the park started to rise) as for one reason or another it wasn't getting any better after shifting furntiture, sandbags and pitching trash. The cleanup started in ernest on Friday.

We have enough stuff in the garage for a great sale though.  I'm hoping to get the garage back in a fortnight to a months time.

It was the number of people who did not prepare that shocked me.  They just simply didn't believe there was going to be a problem. Thankfully it rose slowly on Wednesday morning and we managed to shift a lot of stuff out of houses as the water rose. But hell it was way too late for a lot of people on Wednesday as the flood hit houses about 1 am in the morning here.

The trash being thrown out (a large amount by people not affected as well) is incredable.  There will be a number of houses demolished after all this that the building industry will be working overtime.

I think you will find that the recomendation is that the water mob do not store over 100% in the dam ever from now on.  Its the storage policy that lead to the problem.  When the dam is at over 190% (had 450mm on a dam) and downstream the bremner river floods the dumping of a large volume (600+ GL) caused the flood to be about 50% higher.

We managed 82mm on Friday night thanks to the warm air from Yasi being directed south to Victoria. Poor Melbourne isn't designed to handle any quantity of water it seems.

For example, went for a run along the Yarra on Tuesday, 4 days after the downpour, and the river was still probably about 2m above normal. I could see from along the banks it probably peaked at about 5m, which is pretty significant for such a small river.
