This is a thread about a computer game, hence the posting outside the rugby forum, so sorry if the title got you excited.

Umm not sure if anyone has talked about this yet, but the makers of Lomu Rugby are bringing out another rugby game for PC, PS2 and XBox, World Championship Rugby.

After the dismal piece of crap (in my opinion, based on the demo and reports from others of the full thing) that was EA's latest Rugby incarnation, hopefully this game can do a lot better.

Anyway there is a website at World Championship Rugby

Good spotting Barge, I didn't even know about that one!

According to GamePlanet it will be released for the PC, PS2 and XBox late in April.

I really does look pretty good based on the trailer movie. Much more arcade like than Rugby sim (big, big hits everywhere!) but then that's how Sports games work best in any case.

Like Barge I didn't get past the demo of the latest EA Sports RWC game,  it was just terribly disappointing. I was tempted to pick up a cheap copy of it a while back but decided that it just wasn't worth the time.

Here's hoping this one is the goods!

Cheers, Jules

Looks like its now available in the UK for XBox and PS2 and for preorder on PC. That's it for now I think.

I'll be waiting for PC since I'm that kind of guy, although its probably the kind of game one really should get for a console I suppose.

Anyone played it yet? I can't find a demo anywhere, but the little video snippet playing in background on their new website looks fairly cool.

Looks like its now available on PC in the UK. The bad news is I read a review and the reviewer was fairly critical of it. Thought that the graphics were purty but that the gameplay hadn't changed at all since Lomu rugby.

Looks like yet another rugby game I'll be avoiding. At the same time I went looking for reviews of this I looked fore reviews of Rugby 2003 in case I was being unfair on it and found them to be ho hum to fair. Just as I was getting convinced to have a better look at it I found a review that lambasted it for almost exactly the same reasons I thought the demo was a turd. So, might be no good ruggers games this year. Sad

I think I'll pick up a copy of this one. It certainly looks a lot better that RWC2003, with an emphasis on arcade play (ie: fun) which is something that Jonah Lomu rugby did better than any of the other games.

Interesting in NZ at least the game will be marketed as Zinzan's World Championship Rugby. Zinny is an odd choice, given that he's been retired for years, and is even older than Jonah!

Surely there was some current rugby star that would have been keen. Tana Umaga would be a good candidate I reckon.

Anyway, it's due out on the 28th May in NZ, and RRP is only NZ$60, so good value I hope. I'll write up a review once I get a copy and give it a thrashing.

Cheers, Jules
